In these questions you typically have to identify punctuation, spelling or grammar errors in sentences.
Examples
Variation 1
In this type you will be given a list of 5 sentences and you will need to find the one with either a punctuation, grammar or spelling error.
Example Question 1:
A. I love chocolate ice-cream.
B. I don’t want no dinner.
C. I dreamt we travelled to Switzerland.
D. Summer days are my favourite.
E. Bees collect pollen to make honey.
Answer: B
Explanation: There is a grammar error in “I don’t want no dinner”. This is incorrect as there is a double negative ‘don’t and ‘no’. The sentence should read “I don’t want any dinner”.
Example Question 2:
A. I love chocolate ice-cream.
B. I don’t want any dinner.
C. I dreamt we travelled to Switzerland.
D. Summer days are my favourate.
E. Bees collect pollen to make honey.
Answer: D
Explanation: There is a spelling error namely favourate which should be spelt favourite.
Example Question 3:
A. May I please have an ice-cream?
B. In fact, I don’t want any dinner tonight.
C. I dreamt we travelled to Switzerland Germany and Belgium.
D. Susie’s bag broke at school today.
E. Bees are not as harmful as people suspect.
Answer: C
Explanation: There is a punctuation error: The sentence contains a list of countries and should therefore have a comma between Switzerladn and Germany. I dreamt we travelled to Switzerland, Germany and Belgium.
Variation 2
In this type of question you need to decide what punctuation is missing from the extract.
Example Question 4:
“What a curious feeling [1]” exclaimed Alice; “I must be shutting up like a telescope.[2] And so it was indeed: she was now only ten inches high, and her face brightened up at the thought that she was now the right size for going through the little door into that lovely garden. First [3] however, she waited for a few minutes to see if she was going to shrink any further [4] she felt a little nervous about this; “for it might end, you know,” said Alice to herself, “in my going out altogether, like a candle. I wonder what I should be like then [5]” And she tried to fancy what the flame of a candle is like after the candle is blown out, for she could not remember ever having seen such a thing.

Variation 3
In this type of question you need to choose the sentence in which there are no spelling mistakes.

C) My freind Jane is hilerious and loyal.
D) My friend Jane is hilarous and loyel.
E) My friend Jane is hilerous and loyal.
Answer: B
Explanation: In all of the other sentences the words friend, hilarious and loyal have been spelt incorrectly.
