NVR Type 12 - 3D Composite shapes


Instructions

There are two variations of questions:

Choose which shape would be made if the pair of 3D blocks are combined.

Select how the following 3D object would appear in a top-down, plan view (looking from above).

Method

Variation 1: Visualise the blocks combining in all the ways they can fit together. It is often easiest to start by eliminating the options that clearly cannot be correct e.g. option d which has 3 columns of blocks the same height.

Variation 2: Look at the grey tops of the blocks as they will help you workout what the top view could look like.

Examples

Variation 1 

In this type of question you need to work out which shape would be made if a pair of 3D blocks are combined.

Example Question 1:

Answer: c

Explanation: Look at the shaded side of the blocks on the left, they will help you work out the correct answer.
