English Topic 28 - Gender words

The use and knowledge of gender words is commonly tested in 11 plus exams.

Some words in the English language are specific to a particular gender, particularly those naming animals and people.


Masculine: man, male, boy, father, nephew, uncle, husband, waiter, monk, prince, emperor, ram, stallion, bull, drake, hero, rooster, hog

Female: woman, lady, girl, niece, mother, daughter, wife, waitress, nun, princess, empress , ewe, mare, cow, duck, heroine, hen, sow
