English Topic 27 - Synonyms and Antonyms


Synonyms and Antonyms is a question topic that commonly appears in 11 plus exams. They are tested in some question types found in English and verbal-reasoning exams.

Synonyms are words that have a similar meaning.

Antonyms are words that have the opposite meaning.

Examples:

Synonyms

HOT = scorching, blazing, tropical, baking, sweltering, sultry, roasting, balmy, flaming

QUICK = brief, speedy, rapid, hurried, hasty, snappy, prompt

Antonyms

HOT = arctic, freezing, icy, freezing, chilly, bitter, glacial, chilled, cool, nippy, unheated

QUICK = slow, unhurried, lethargic, slothful, ponderous, creeping, inactive
