Hi, my daughter has complete mock exam in Redbridge and she just received her results today. Looking and analysing results I noticed that there are totalling mistakes in each section, except Verbal Reasoning section is correct. Please guide us with the process to request corrections, please re-evaluate all other sections and confirm the revised ranking.
My Daughter was told this mock exam was harder than the real one, what was the comparison based on ? What was the difficulty level of this one?

Looking forwards to hearing from you soon.

    Thanks
    Sagar

    Hi Sagar,

Thanks for getting in touch. I just checked the original Maths & NVR answer sheet against what is in COAsT and everything matches perfectly. The score is correct. Your daughter filled in everything very clearly. Could you please let us know more details about the issue. Are you meaning that there is a problem with the actual result or just in the breakdown section underneath the results?

Thanks for re-evaluation of the sheet and reaching back.

As you have checked so it should be correct, but request following 2 clarifications please:
    1. English section shows 30/47 – which should be 32/47, when you drill down on topics, I see that following subtopic total is not matching:
    Vocabulary 17/22 – Should have been 19/22 (as Synonyms & Antonyms is 16/19 + Compound Words 3/3)

    2. Maths – 49/65 – here the total questions are 120 and the correct answers total is 96 . So the score should be 96/120 which should be 80% – not sure how this is marked.

    Many thanks

    Hi Sagar,

Ah ok, you mean the breakdown. We’ll look into it now. The breakdown is calculated separately from the actual test score so the Rank you see is definitely correct as it is right now.

It might be that a couple of the questions are tagged under multiple topics. Will let you know shortly.

As for the difficulty of the tests…

Without getting the official data from the real tests we cannot say for sure, but over the last 9 years, the feeling is that our mock tests are a little bit harder than the real thing. Most children who score highly in our mock tests go on to score highly in the real exam.

I thought so that Breakdown would have been calculated separately, however it should all add up to the total on the top, hence may be confusing if not incorrect.

Appreciate you looking into it and will look forward for feedback.

Thanks for giving view on the actual test and difficulty level. Sincerely hope my daughter to do better in real tests 🙂

Just checked the breakdown. I see why it might be confusing…

When we give the total correct, e.g. Comprehension 9 / 20, the 9 is how many *unique questions* have been attempted for that particular topic. Some questions can be in multiple topics which is why adding up the number of correct answers in the sub topics doesn’t always match the parent topic total. Hope that makes sense.

Don’t think of the breakdown as part of the score or rank. Think of it more as a way to visually see the weaker topics. It’s ordered so that the weaker topics appear first. It’s just to give you an idea of which topics might need more practice.

Many thanks for clarification and it does gives some understanding and could be true for other section, but wrt English, my simple maths on subsections is:
    Comprehension is 9/20 – Correct
    Punctuation is 1/2 – Correct
    Vocabulary 17/22 – Should have been 19/22 (as Synonyms & Antonyms is 16/19 + Compound Words 3/3)
    Spelling 3/3 – Correct

    So total 9+1+17+3 / 20+2+22+3 = 30/47

However when we talk about Vocab:
    Vocabulary Should have been Synonyms & Antonyms is 16/19 + Compound Words 3/3 = 16 + 3 / 19 + 22 = 19 /22 and not 17 / 22

I assume you mean the score when out of 47 means there were 47 unique questions, which had 32 unique answers right. So total for English should be 32 / 47 i.e. 68% ?

If there were 2 questions which were counted in 2 sections, hence the right answers are 30, would that not mean the total number of questions should then be 45 (not 47).

I can be reached at 07887 624 502 if you would like to discuss this over a call.
