TOPIC: Verbal Reasoning - Help needed

Re: Verbal Reasoning - Help needed 1 year, 4 months ago #3182

Hello Trish

I can't be certain but I suspect the type of question that your daughter has seen is in the Susan Daughtery Book, Verbal Reasoning, Technique and Practice 4, Type 32.
The style that you describe is similar to that explained under the sub-heading 32.3 where she talks about a mixture of Kind 32.1 and Kind 32.3 where the two techniques are combined. There are a few examples in the Now try these section of Type 32.3

Hope that helps

Hiya, thank you. I most certainly will continue to tell people about Chuckra! I have found it an invaluable help, was just gutted that I only found it on the day my older daughter was actually sitting to write her 11+ She never panicked in practises but had a big nosebleed on her last practice at home, at which point I told her to go and play, she'd practiced well all summer... During her Verbal reasoning got the question type she was on when her nose bled and panicked that her nose would bleed all over her paper and ruin it... And just couldn't finish the last 20 questions... But she also passed and got a great score. We have found the video explanations brilliant and I have subsequently passed on your website to every friend who's child has been doing the 11+.

I wonder if anyone can explain the difference in the marks for 11+ results? My neice wrote her's in Bucks and her score was around 130 something, if not more, whilst in Lincolnshire the pass mark is 220. Is it because where my neice is they only write the Verbal reasoning paper and don't do the Non-verbal? I am intrigued to know how the scores would convert. My daughters have got 231 and 248 respectively.

Have a good day.
Regards

Yep, Bucks only does VR so the max score is 141 and the pass mark usually around 121. Different areas do things differently. We are working on putting info on all the different scoring systems on the site but it takes time to gather all the latest information. If there are any helpful parents or tutors out there who would like to help us with this task then we'd be truly grateful.
