Thank you for the correct link.

Is it true that the HIKNOS questions are not on the gl papers? (but are in the real exams?)

Yes, Chuckra types 3, 6, 12, 16, 19 & 20 do not appear in the GL Assessment Familiarisation tests, but they do appear in the real exams in some counties.

Re: HIKNOS 1 year, 4 months ago #3191

I am preparing DD No. 2 for 11+ next year. The relevant exam board is CSSE - Essex Consortium. I have used Chuckra because it contains the other 6 types not featured in the Nfer exams, namely HIKNOS. My current understanding is that Essex 11+ features 21 types, so we used chuckra, IPS, Walsh Bumblebee, Susan Daughtrey Bright Sparks, PHI (Learning Labs). These papers contain all 21 types. You can buy them from the Chuckra shop. We also used GL papers (15 types only in GL papers) because my understanding is that it is GL who write the papers for the Essex Consortium. I was going to buy the 11Plus Swot papers but note that they are based on nfer vr papers, in which case, would these 11+ Swot papers contain only the 15 types?

Another question is that recently, out of curiosity, I bought Athey Educational VR. It features 30 types. DD1 actually found one or two of them familiar - she says her exam paper featured these extra types (and they did not come from the stable of 21 types). She could either be imagining things, since her exams were in 2009, or these types are sub-types of the original 21 and indeed featured in the paper. I am now wondering if the Essex 11+ is purely 21 types or there are further sub-set types. My gut instincts are to also practise the types featured in Athey as it may not be a waste of time, just in case. If this were the case, then perhaps I should also look at AFN papers, MCQ format. I have also seen a pack of Bond papers for VR in Multiple Choice Format. 80 Questions to be completed in 50 minutes, published 2002. I am very tempted to buy them and see what types they feature....or would Bond be completely irrelevant? When I prepared DD1, we avoided Bond standard version for VR as it was irrelevant. Any thoughts anyone?
