i have used 15 mins to work it out and i have come to a conclusion:

Nope. It's Claire's OR Elliot's present! The question is wrong because it has two possible answers from the info given.

My 10 year old daughter figure this out quite easily and the answer was claire.

Bateman88 and f4rz4n4 - it states in the first post that the authors of this question (whoever they were!!) think that the answer is Claire - so it would be helpful for you to show your working out and logic as to why you agree with this.

The present from Claire is heavier than the one from Angela which is lighter than Elliots gift. Berties present is the same weight as Angelas, but heavier than the one from Dirk.

Going back to the question (and note my emphasis), and bear in mind English is not my forte ... if Angela's gift is lighter than Elliot's gift, which is the only way I can read that statement i.e. just as IT IS WRITTEN, then all we can say from all what is stated is that Elliot's gift is either the heaviest or second heaviest, since we cannot infer whether Elliot's gift is heavier or lighter than Claire's. Or in other words the two heaviest gifts are Claire's and Elliot's, but to say which one is the HEAVIEST just ain't possible ... we don't have enough information ... although if faced with all false options in a multiple choice (I hope will NEVER happen) I would be inclined to play the percentage game and likely opt for Claire ... but somehow want to register my righteous indignation.
