TOPIC: The 2010 Register

Re:The 2010 Register 1 year, 10 months ago #2839

Caz,

You said earlier that your son was already getting 1hr 20 mins of 11+ tuition and 1.5 hrs of related homework a week on top of his school work.

I think if you add this in there as well you may find it a struggle - but again, only you know his capabilities.

If it's something you do occassionally then it can't be bad as it can only keep the maths part of his brain well oiled. What does his tutor think?

Hi

I have only just started doing the 11 plus test papers with my son. He will be doing his exam at the end of the year.

We are currently working our way through the verbal reasoning types and have found the videos really good. He is therefore picking up "tricks" really quickly .

Haven't started timing him as i need him to understand how to work out the problems first.

We are yet to start the non verbal reasoning (which he does't like ) Any advice to get him interested?

I personally think the site is really great and has a lot of information and have recommended it to several mums

Thanks

Like you say I would only do it occassionally. I was wondering more about the content with regard areas they won't cover or may not yet have covered, in KS2. Plus, school won't tell me what level he's at, only that he's on track to get 5's next year. Having got a level 6 pass on the paper he tried, and his tutor telling me he's a very firm 5 now, I'm concerned they may let him coast for the next year on the basis there's no more room to add any value!

OldSkool,

We did have a pm system on here a while ago but decided to remove it because children seemed to use it mainly to send other people offensive messages. It would be useful for some people, I give you that. I'll think about putting the pm system back.

Simon

ps Thanks for providing such great advice in the forum. Really useful posts.
