TOPIC: The 2010 Register

Thanks for explaining, I'm not a fan of some aspects of it, as you can tell! It's a shame some computers are so slow, as I can see it would be a great system if all computers worked speedily.

One more thing (you don't have to reply) not everybody will have a separate account for their child, and so you won't be able to tell whether it's an adult or a child taking the test. My daughter took the test as me. Some sites don't like it if you have more than one person logging in from one IP address, so I just got her to use my account. So if you wanted stats for that too, it might be good to have a few questions at the start of the paper.

Yes I have the same problem. My daughters will be taking the test this year, but after doing all their school work the last thing they want to do is more studying.
They are both very bright and think that the 11+ will be no problem - they are in for a big shock!

Tracyjay,

I wouldn't expect them to work on the 11+ every night.

What is your plan for them? Are you using the resources here to give them some exercises to complete?

Hi there...been a while since I was on

Luca is doing well, if Im honest we havent actually stuck to any program of study up to now. Im planning on using the summer holidays to get lots of actual 11+ study done, for now we are doing lots of informal stuff that he views as more of a game...whilst Im cooking for example I give him a word and ask him to tell me 5 other words that mean the same or whilst we're in the car I give him maths problems etc.

OldSkool, its an NVR test that he's doing, not VR as I first thought

We just had his parents evening and theyve told us not to worry about the school reading books, let him read his own and they'll work through the school ones in lesson time (they're a bit dry...lol) He cant progress much further in year 5 as their levels are capped at 4c (why?)which he's already at for reading, 4b+ for numeracy and 4b for literacy - his teacher expects all 4c's by the end of term. Does this actually mean anything in terms of how they'll fair in the tests though?

Yes. At the moment we are going through the papers together and I am explaining how to do them. One of my daughters has aspergers so I am finding this is the best way. Once they are familiar with the types of questions I will then ask them to try on their own. Then the plan is to start timing them.

Hi all - First post, so gently does it!!

I have (just) moved from Nottinghamshire to Buckinghamshire, one key reason being that my daughter (9 years old - Year 5) can have a crack at the 11+. I went to GS in High Wycombe so know the benefits of this education.

Coming back into the tests after many many years I have found it a bit of a minefield. Given that time will be of the essence, can you all give me any useful pointers so that we can hit the ground running.

So far, the things that I have gleaned are:

- Buckinghamshire has Verbal Reasoning tests only
- Practice Papers seem to be widely available - I have purchased some from WH Smiths, but this site seems to be a huge source of valuable information

Things I need to know:

- Where do I get information on how to study? Do I work through (with my daughter) lots of practice papers, or is there a better way.
- There is mention of Easter/Summer "Clubs". Where would I find out about this?
- How do I prepare a plan /programme for my daughter and I?
- And a final one - I hope I have not left it too late - my daughter has yet to start on any of this. House move was on Monday!!

I would appreciate any information any of you have to offer. Many Thanks!
