TOPIC: The 2010 Register

Re:The 2010 Register 2 years, 2 months ago #2651

Thanks Phil.
We are currently working through the papers in VR, NVR and Maths. I have got most of the materials and as I was a teacher at one time, I mostly guide her through. But touchwood, she is brighter than me and gets the NVR ones a lot more correctly than I get , and in lesser time !!
I will surely write here, if we are stuck at any point. Lets keep this thread active.

BTW ..When does Chukra have their mock tests ? This site has some excellent resources. I have recommended them to friends of mine.

cj,

Hello there - I take it that it is you that is taking your 11+ exam (and you aren't a parent).

A couple of questions - which area are you in (are you just Verbal or are going to be tested on NVR, English & Maths as well?)

Also - What other help are you getting? Any help from parents, family or any extra tuition??

Luca1999,

Welcome to the thread.

Same questions to you as to everyone - what authority / county are you in? This should help us see the extent of the challenge ahead.

Doing something every night might be a little overkill - but you know your own son best. Having a loose agreement sometimes doesn't work. You really can't commit to working 7 evenings a week as you both have other commitments (I'm sure) - if you miss out on Monday because of cubs and then Tuesday because of homework etc, etc you will start to feel that you are already behind programme. Maybe set a target to cover 1 question topic a week and if you haven't managed it during the week you may have to spend an hour before (not after) Sunday lunch.

Is your son a book-lover? So much of the tests revolve around vocabulary that just encouraging them to read a challenging book for half an hour is superb 'revision'.

We're in Liverpool - I couldnt see any reference to Liverpool on here though...I think we only have one school that uses the 11+.

He does read an awful lot, so thats good

Once a week sounds more like it doesnt it - I was a bit over-excited there...

Hi Chinmay,

I agree that HARD WORK is important. Very important. But my motto is "WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER".

There are some question types that lend themselves to short-cuts and 'cheats' so that you can do them in a fraction of the time.......leaving more time for the ones you can't cheat at.

Are you studying for VR, NVR, English, Maths ?? And where are you based?
