My Daughter took her 11+ Mock exam on Saturday and she has got her results in %. I have no idea if she passed - or not overall score 73.8%

Maths 60%
English 71.4%
VR 90%
I am concerned as I thought that she would walk "walk it" as she is considered by her tutor and teachers as an "ideal" candidate, because of her attitude to working and school etc....
Would she have passed with these marks?
AND why are my marks in % and everywhere else I see scores in numbers!!!
I am due a breakdown of the results later this week, but I feel very worried at the moment.
Please can someone tell me what it all means!!!

The answer is - you need to see everyone else's marks before you can tell if she has passed or not.

You do appreciate that they standardize the scores? They can't pass everyone if its an 'easy' paper or fail everyone if its a toughie.

Please don't get too obsessed with scores and percentages with practice papers - it may not be giving you the right conclusion (either way).

If the school think she's good enough and you are helping her to do her best, then it sounds like she will be okay.

As long as she has learned from any mistakes then she is one step further towards passing for real.

This mock seemed like a good idea at the time - we paid to go under exam conditions to a school last saturday along with loads of other candidates for this mock -
I think you think that you are doing the best you can for your children, and now realise that on the 21st Nov she is sitting the real thing now under pressure to do better than before....So on reflection I wish we hadnt put her and us through this!
BUT like all parents we wanted her to be on a level palying field with all the other children in Salisbury....who all seemed to be there!!!

Well - you sound like a parent who cares about your child's education and that is a big step as so many don't.

I didn't opt for a mock as my son would have been more unsettled for that (in a strange place with strange faces) than the real thing. Also, to me there doesn't seem too much time after it to actually use the results to concentrate on areas that need work.

I think a mock in the summer (early summer) could have some benefits but only if you had quality feedback.

21st eh? - I remember those two weeks prior to my son taking his exam and he gets his results on the 20th. Somehow you need to keep yourself relaxed in those days before as your anxiety may get picked up on.

You're right though - it is a shame that us parents have to go through this phase just to be on a level playing field with everyone else.

Luckily we have Chuckra.......the advantage is back with those that discover its many uses!!!!!
