Children usually sit the 11+ exam in the academic year in which they turn 11. This would be during Year 6. As 11+ exams often happen early in the academic year (September or October) a lot of children will take the exam when they are still 10. In fact if a child has a late August birthday and sits an exam in early September, they may only just be 10 and have nearly another year to go before they are 11.

If your child is in Year 6 in 2013 then that is when she will take the 11+. It looks like your child may be only just 10 at the time as she has a late August birthday.
For your information, some selective school exams are a little later and may go into January/February 2014.
