DESPERATE MUM. WHERE TO START FROM!?!!!!!!!!!!! 1 year, 11 months ago #2770

My son is in year 5, since last year i sent him to a tutor in order to prepare him for grammar schools tests for this September.
I am a little concerned because it seems to me that the tutor gives him lots of homework and my son is getting fed up about it. (Hard to make him do homework, always a fight).
So I decided to try with this website, but i don't know where to start from.
What is the first things i should go for?
Can you please help step by step?
I know it sounds silly, but because it is a big decision I am making by quitting with the tutor, I want to be sure my son will benefit from this website in full.
Thank you in advance
Giovanna

Is your son preparing for Verbal Reasoning only?

In which county are you?

Our recommended starting point for VR is the Chuckra Verbal Reasoning Super Bundle as it is Chuckra's 11+ Verbal Reasoning materials in one bundle and available at a discounted price.

It includes:
Tutorial Videos covering all of the common VR question types.
VR Practice Book including parents' guidance
Printable tests of varying lengths (10 minutes, 20 minutes, 50 minutes) to keep interest up.
Playing Cards to spice up preparation.
Core Arithmetic Worksheets to build skills needed for the numeracy based VR questions.

Marcella has already asked the same questions I would.

What county are you in and are you preparing for VR, NVR, Maths, English or what exactly - every authority is slightly different.

There is certainly help here if you want it.

Some tutors do overdo the work and I would be interested to hear if your son has been having one-to-one sessions or in a small class, how many hours a week and exactly how much homework.

I would say that you have plenty of time and not to panic.

So firstly - what subjects/tests do you need guidance on???

Sorry it took so long to answer.
My son goes one day a week for two hours, it is a class with 10 children.
He gets 6 pages a day to do for the all week.
my dilemma is: will he do better with this website than the tutor?
Can I get tutorial for things that I and him don't understand/
He will need to go over all the 4 subjects: Math, Verbal and Non verbal and English.
My question is Where do I start from.
Please Please give an advice

This site has a marvellous guide to techniques for VR, maths, English and NVR papers are also available.

If you look above you will find the links to the relevant bits of the site. The shop contains links to materials you can buy and the papers/study aids link to free resources.

You will need to put together a work timetable and extra will be required. If your son is reluctant to work I would suggest that you work on his motivation. Many children do not want to do the work involved because they believe that it is a waste of time. You must convince him that he is a clever boy that you know can pass the 11+ otherwise he will not see the value in working hard.
