| Beware of 'My child is top of the class' syndrome |
This is something which has been said many times on this site but I think it's worth mentioning again.
Top of the class does not guarantee an 11 Plus PassJust because your child is top of their class doesn't mean they will pass the 11 plus exam. We are not saying this to scare you but to urge you to prepare for the 11 plus exam. I assure you that a huge number of children taking the same test as your child will have been preparing well in advance of the exam. We have heard of many parents who are actively refusing to let their child practice because they think their child is bound to pass. Refusing to practise is just being unecessarily stubborn.
Why not practice? The standard is very high now. Your child will be competing against children who have been practising the exact question types for years. Not every child needs years of practice to get to the required standard, but entering the exam with only a couple of practice tests as preparation is NOT WISE. Nowadays there is no reason not to practise. There are plenty of free materials around so make use of them.
If time is short then start with our method and technique videos. Make sure your child is aware of the many variations of the 21 question types which could appear. Then start with practice papers. Work out which question types your child finds most difficult and then download more papers of that type from our site.
ConclusionMany children ARE practising for the 11 plus exams. The exam is not a genuine test of intelligence and practice DOES increase your marks. Even if your child is top of the class then at least make sure to put in some practice a few weeks before the exam. They need to be scoring over 90% in practice papers consistently to have a good chance of passing. |
